SUMMARY:Bures towards Sudbury Tour - Saturday 4th April 2026
DESCRIPTION:Tour starts from the car park at Bures recreation ground\, paddling up the river Stour towards Sudbury. The total distance is dependent upon how far the group wish to paddle on the day but is  typically around 8 miles. There are a few portages on this trip. There is a very handy pub on the road into Bures which we plan to book  a table after the paddle so please let me know if you want to stay for lunch when booking your slot. \nPaddlers need to be self sufficient as we will not be taking a trailer. \nWe meet at the recreation ground car park CO8 5BX at 9:30 to be on the water at 10:00\, please allow enough time to unload and get ready. There was no charge to use the car park the last time we did this paddle. There is a reasonable walk from the car park to the river so bring a trolley if you prefer to use this to transport your boat. \nFor more information and to book your space on the tour\, email the organizer with your name\, contact telephone number\, emergency contact number\, and state whether you will be taking your own boat or wish to borrow one from the club. \nPlease note the following: \n\nThis tour is considered suitable for paddlers who have recently completed the BC Explore award. \nFor tour safety\, this trip is restricted to 16 paddlers maximum. Regrettably\, if you don’t put your name down but turn up on the day and there are already 16 paddlers\, we will have to turn you away. If the tour is oversubscribed\, please contact the tour leader 24 hours before the tour\, as there are sometimes cancellations.\nPaddlers should bring their National Governing Body membership card and be of at least Explore standard or equivalent. SUMMARY:Allington Lock to East Farleigh - Saturday 14th March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Tour starts from the car park at Allington Lock\, paddling down the river Medway to East Farleigh and back. The total distance is about 9/10 miles\, there are no portages but you can get out to stretch your legs at the halfway point. There is a very handy pub on the opposite bank at the start/finish point so we can book a table and get some lunch if anyone fancies it. (Let me know). \nPaddlers need to be self sufficient as we will not be taking a trailer. \nWe meet at Allington Lock ME16 0LU at 9:30 to be on the water at 10:00\, please allow enough time to unload and get ready. It’s an Environment Agency run car park that costs about £5.00 for all day\, stop at the lock keeper’s office just before the barrier and pay him by card\, he’ll raise the barrier and you can drive a short distance along to parking area. Please make sure you have your BC membership card with you as they have been known to ask to see them in the past. SUMMARY:Brightlingsea Tour POSTPONED*
DESCRIPTION:*Unfortunately due to the Brightlingsea Regatta this tour has been postponed. \nThis is a sea paddle\, and all paddlers will need to be independent in terms of transport and equipment. \nThe tour will commence at Brightlingsea harbour at around 09.45 to be on the water for 10.am. Launching is available from either the Hard {the harbour itself} or the hammer head pontoon depending on weather conditions. Parking is available in the Tower Street car park {CO7 0AP}.  The cost of parking is around £4 for 4 hours. It is situated at the bottom of Tower Street just behind the Harbour Master’s office. From here there is a short walk to the launch point. \nAll participants will need to be suitably experienced paddling tidal water and have Paddle UK membership or other similar license for paddling. \nThe tour will leave Brightlingsea harbour and turn right up the river Colne keeping the seafront in sight on the right. There will be about an hour and half’s paddle to Whitehouse beach where we will break for lunch. From here we can either return to Brightlingsea directly or paddle up Aylesford creek to the tidal mill before returning. Paddlers should bring their own lunch and hot beverage. \nPlease note this tour is dependant on good weather conditions and therefore may be subject to change at short notice. \nFor more information and to book your space on the tour\, email the organiser with your name\, contact telephone number\, and emergency contact number. DESCRIPTION:There are no plans to take a trailer so paddlers will need to be self-sufficient\, transporting boats and equipment. All participants must be suitably experienced and have Paddle UK membership or similar licence for paddling on the River Cam. \nMeet at the car park opposite The Bridge entrance before 09.30\, on the water by 10.00. Only one portage at Bottisham Lock\, the plan is to paddle from Waterbeach to Upware\, Ely. Stopping for refreshment at Five Miles from Anywhere No Hurry Inn\, before returning.  \nNo facilities available at the meeting point. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 2025 Blackwater tour from Kelvedon CO5 9BE\, down the river Blackwater to Langford CM9 6QA with a lunch stop at Blue Mills. The canoe club has been allocated 10 places (of 50) this year. Priority will be given to those who have recently completed the Discovery award  who have not done the Blackwater tour before. \nTour fees are £9.00/£7.00 (adult/child) or £4.00/£2.00 for BCU members (bring card). \nBoats need to be dropped at the start by 10.00 to allow time for the car shuffle (starting 10.10) to Langford (approx 45 mins) for an 11.00 start. Finish will be about 15.30. \nNote space at the Langford village hall car park is limited so paddlers will need to be self-sufficient. DESCRIPTION:The tour starts from the Old Mill Retreat Cafe and follows the River Lea / navigation either downstream towards Waltham Cross or upstream towards Dobbs Weir.  The tour length is approximately 3 miles each way with two locks\, but participants have the option of going further on the day depending on weather and ability. \nThere are no plans to take a trailer so paddlers will need to be self-sufficient and helping other paddlers if you have roof space is appreciated. \nMeet at the Old Mill Retreat Café car park EN10 7AX at 09.30 to be on the water for 10:00am. SUMMARY:Brightlingsea Tour 23rd March 2024
DESCRIPTION:This is a sea paddle\, and all paddlers will need to be independent in terms of transport and equipment. \nThe tour will commence at Brightlingsea harbour. At around 09.45 to be on the water for 10.am. Launching is available from either the Hard {the harbour itself} or the hammer head pontoon depending on weather conditions. Parking is available in the Tower Street car park {CO7 0AP}.  The cost of parking is around £4 for 4 hours. It is situated at the bottom of Tower Street just behind the Harbor Master’s office. From here there is a short walk to the launch point. \n All participants will need to be suitably experienced paddling tidal water and have British Canoe membership or other similar license for paddling.  \nThe tour will leave Brightlingsea harbour and turn right up the river Colne keeping the seafront in sight on the right. There will be about an hour and half’s paddle to Whitehouse beach where we will break for lunch. From here we can either return to Brightlingsea directly or paddle up Aylesford creek to the tidal mill before returning. SUMMARY:Allington Lock to East Farleigh - Saturday 4th November 2023
DESCRIPTION:Tour starts from the car park at Allington Lock\, paddling down the river Medway to East Farleigh and back. The total distance is about 9/10 miles\, there are no portages but you can get out to stretch your legs at East Farleigh. There is a very handy pub on the opposite bank at the start/finish point so we can book a table and get some lunch if anyone fancies it. (Let me know). \nPaddlers need to be fully self-sufficient. \nWe meet at Allington Lock ME16 0LU at 9:30 to be on the water at 10:00\, please allow enough time to unload and get ready. It’s an Environment Agency run car park that costs £5.00 a day\, stop at the lock keepers office just before the barrier and pay him by card\, he’ll raise the barrier and you can drive a short distance along to parking area. Please make sure you have your BC membership card with you as they have been known to ask to see them in the past. DESCRIPTION:Tour Description:  \nThe tour starts at Shoeburyness near the Coast Guard Station and follows the Thames down past Southend seafront to Old Leigh. There are no plans to take a trailer so paddlers will need to be self-sufficient\, with their own vehicle\, boat\, equipment\, etc. All participants will need to be suitably experienced paddling tidal water and have British Canoe membership or other similar license for paddling on the Thames. \nMeet at the public car park (charges are £5.50 for 5 hours) at Shoebury Common Beach (next to Uncle Tom’s Cabin) at 12:45 to be on the water for 13:15. We will be travelling 2 hours either side of the high tide which is at 15:15. \nPlease note this tour is dependant on good weather conditions and therefore may be subject to change at short notice. \nFor more information and to book your space on the tour\, email the organiser with your name\, contact telephone number\, and emergency contact number. DESCRIPTION:NOTE CHANGE OF DATE DUE TO CLUB FUN DAY \nWe plan the paddle on the incoming tide towards Maldon\, exploring the inlets at Steeple and down to Maylandsea\, returning with the outgoing tide to St. Lawrence. There are no plans to take a trailer so paddlers will need to be self-sufficient\, with their own vehicle\, boat\, equipment\, etc. Ideally\, given the scarcity of parking\, paddlers should double up where practical to use as few cars as possible. \nEveryone should meet at The Braes. DESCRIPTION:The tour starts on Friday evening with a self provided BBQ\, having pitched your tent at the charming Outney Meadow Caravan Park\, NR35 1HG. Saturday morning sees us set off towards Beccles along the River Waveney for about 9km to The Locks Inn Community Pub for a spot of lunch. Then having had our fill its back along the same stretch of river to return to the campsite. \nAfter a little bit of down time\, shower and change\, it’s off to a local establishment for a well earned meal and beverage and to enjoy each others company for the evening. Details and menu to be advised. \nSunday morning sees the opportunity for a quick paddle in the opposite direction through a narrower and more twisty section of the river. Then back to the campsite by lunchtime\, packup and head off home full of wonderous memories. \nThere are no plans to take a trailer so paddlers will need to be self-sufficient\, with their own vehicle\, boat\, equipment\, etc. and especially tent and sleeping bag. \nFor more information and to book your space on the tour\, email the organiser with your name\, contact telephone number\, emergency contact number\, and state whether you will be taking your own boat and if you are able to offer roof rack space to another boat if necessary. You should have ideally previously experienced paddling on tidal water\, be confident to paddle 12 miles and proficient in rescuing. \n]We are launching from Coopers Beach Caravan Park in East Mersey\, CO5 8TN and will be paddling clockwise around the Island. Meet at Clubhouse beach at 10.00am and we will be setting off as soon as the tide is high enough. High tide is at 1.29pm so bear in mind this is an all day paddle. Please bring lunch with you\, as there is nowhere to buy food at the lunch stop. \nThere is limited parking on site\, so where possible please double up with someone else to keep the number of cars to a minimum. \nAs this is a charity fundraising paddle\, we are asking for all participants to ideally obtain some sponsorship for this event. The sticker provided entitles you to free navigation of the Chelmer and Blackwater Canal (Failure to display may result in the Canal Company charging the individual additional fees). For tours not on the Chelmer and Blackwater Canal\, membership of the National Governing Body is required and must be shown to the tour organiser.\nBoats and equipment may be hired by arrangement with the Equipment Officer or the relevant club section.\nCopies of the Club constitution & rules are displayed on the Club noticeboard and can be obtained from the Club secretary (the cost of printing these may be charged).\n\nAs part of my membership of CHELMSFORD CANOE CLUB\, I understand that canoeing can be a hazardous activity\, and is undertaken at my own risk. DESCRIPTION:Meet at the Henny Swan car park at 9:30am. Car park is free if you use the establishment after the paddle. There are no plans to take a trailer and paddlers will need to be self-sufficient with their own equipment. \nThe tour will commence at 10am so please ensure you arrive with sufficient time to unload your boat and gear.
