Bures towards Sudbury Tour – Saturday 4th April 2026

Tour starts from the car park at Bures recreation ground, paddling up the river Stour towards Sudbury. The total distance is dependent upon how far the group wish to paddle on the day but is typically around 8 miles. There are a few portages on this trip. There is a very handy pub on the road into Bures which we plan to book a table after the paddle so please let me know if you want to stay for lunch when booking your slot.
Paddlers need to be self sufficient as we will not be taking a trailer.
We meet at the recreation ground car park CO8 5BX at 9:30 to be on the water at 10:00, please allow enough time to unload and get ready. There was no charge to use the car park the last time we did this paddle. There is a reasonable walk from the car park to the river so bring a trolley if you prefer to use this to transport your boat.
For more information and to book your space on the tour, email the organizer with your name, contact telephone number, emergency contact number, and state whether you will be taking your own boat or wish to borrow one from the club.
Please note the following:
- This tour is considered suitable for paddlers who have recently completed the BC Explore award.
- For tour safety, this trip is restricted to 16 paddlers maximum. Regrettably, if you don’t put your name down but turn up on the day and there are already 16 paddlers, we will have to turn you away. If the tour is oversubscribed, please contact the tour leader 24 hours before the tour, as there are sometimes cancellations.
- Paddlers should bring their National Governing Body membership card and be of at least Explore standard or equivalent. They should also bring with them their usual safety kit.
